Several interviews ahead of The Players Championship this week at TPC Sawgrass were a little strange.

There was still plenty of golf talk ahead of one of the biggest tournaments of the year. However there were moments that left both fans watching and the golf media a little puzzled.

For example, Adam Scott said that he skipped playing Augusta National — the home of The Masters — because he and his wife went to a Reba McEntire concert. Nothing against Reba, but skipping out on playing one of the best golf courses in the world isn’t something many professional golfers would ever do.

Rory McIlroy seemed extremely excited about breadsticks, for some reason. Jason Day even compared winning a major to winning a 1992 Grammy award during his press conference. Others simply dropped in strange phrases that didn’t really make sense, like, “even a catfish is right twice a day.”

Finally, though, it all makes sense.

On Friday, Jimmy Fallon hilariously revealed that he had recruited several Tour players for his recurring “The Tonight Show” segment, “Drop It In,” and gave them all phrases to drop into their interviews nonchalantly.

    Check it out:

Great work, Jimmy Fallon. The golf world this week, clearly, was none the wiser.
