CORICA: SO FAR WE'VE WON NOTHING...

Sydney FC coach Steve Corica has one mission in mind as the crunch end of the season approaches - put silverware in the trophy cabinet...and that starts with a win over Melbourne Victory this weekend.

Victory have claimed the honours in both encounters so far this season, but Corica is keen to avoid handing them a hat-trick when they clash at the SCG on Saturday night.

The former Sydney skipper turned coach is set to complete his debut season in charge of the Sky Blues with more success than most other former assistants who have landed in the hot seat.

But Corica was the first to admit this morning: "Of course we want to win trophies – but so far we haven't won anything.

"We made the cup final but unfortunately we didn't win it so we were disappointed with that. We'll see - we've still got a chance of winning two trophies. We're giving ourselves the best chance to finish top.

"I'm pleased with the way the players have done this season - obviously we've had our fair share of injuries and change of venues with no Allianz Stadium.

"So there's been quite a few things going in this year. It's been a great learning experience for me."

He added: "When you're assistant coach, you don't see a lot of the little things the head coach does behind the scenes.

"Man management is important - I learnt that from Graham Arnold and the way he dealt with players.

"It's important to keep your players happy and talk to them, to tell them why they're not in the team, if that's the case, and tell them when they're doing well.

"I've learned a lot."

Groundsmen took the covers of a patchwork pitch at the SCG today as Sydney trained ahead of tomorrow night's clash, but Corica insisted the turf would be up to the job despite the heavy schedule of multisport matches now using the SCG.

"It's a big game so it's a big venue," said Corica. "We're very excited to be back here because the last time we played here against Western Sydney Wanderers, we won.

"The pitch is good, we've checked it out and we'll practise on it now ahead of the game."

He added: "There's no excuses about pitches.

"It's another football game and we must win."
