Delhi Capitals batsman Manjot Kalra is one of the most promising youngsters in Indian cricket. The left-hander rose to fame after a brilliant century in the final of the U-19 World Cup last year to help India defeat Australia and clinch the coveted trophy. He is yet to make his debut in the Indian Premier League and his hopeful of earning his maiden cap this year with a revamped Delhi side.

Kalra, who belongs from Delhi, is a huge admirer of Indian skipper and local lad Virat Kohli, who is also the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. The run machine has been one of the most prolific run-getters in world cricket in the past few years and has inspired several youngsters around the world with his stellar batting and an insatiable hunger for runs.

Kalra didn't have to look too far for inspiration and often watches Kohli's batting videos to improve his skills. “I still watch Virat Kohli’s videos to improve my batting. He is an inspiration. I know I am a left-hander but I get to learn a lot from a legend like him (Kohli),” he confessed in an interview to Times of India.

Kalra played an instrumental role in leading India to the U-19 World Cup title last year with 252 runs in five innings at a brilliant average of 84. He delivered his best performance in the tournament in the all-important summit clash as his unbeaten 101 guided India to a comfortable win over the Aussies, who had posted 216 runs on the board. After his match-winning display, Kalra caught the eye of fans and scouts alike and was picked by Delhi Capitals (Formerly Daredevils) in the IPL.

The 20-year-old is hopeful of winning the title with Delhi Capitals this season and feels the side this time around is much balanced with the addition of the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Keemo Paul. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has never won the IPL trophy and are gunning for their maiden title this season. “We have star players. Our batting is as strong as our bowling. We have a balanced side. I am sure we will win the title this time," Manjot said.

Delhi Capitals were off to a winning start after beating Mumbai Indians by 37 runs in their first encounter of IPL 2019. The team will look to continue their winning momentum against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings in their second clash of the season.
